New In the Heights Trailer Previews 96,000 Musical Number

Warner Bros. Pictures has released a brand new trailer for Jon M. Chu’s upcoming film adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s hit Broadway musical In the Heights, which is scheduled to premiere on June 18 in theaters and on HBO Max. The video provides us a preview of one of the film’s big musical numbers titled “96,000,” which is now available on music streaming sites. Check out the In the Heights trailer in the player below!

Written by Lin-Manuel Miranda and performed by lead stars Anthony Ramos, Corey Hawkins and more, the said song is about the winning lottery ticket that was sold in Usnavi’s bodega, leading the neighborhood to dream about all of the possibilities they could have if they were the one who won $96,000.

Based on Lin-Manuel Miranda‘s award-winning Broadway musical, In the Heights is set in Washington Heights in New York City and focuses on a bodega owner who is closing his store and retiring to the Dominican Republic after inheriting his grandmother’s fortune.

The film adaptation will be led by Anthony Ramos (HamiltonA Star is Born) as Usnavi de la Vega, Corey Hawkins (Straight Outta Compton) as Benny, Melissa Barrera (Vida) as Vanessa, and Leslie Grace as Nina Rosario. It will also star Miranda, Jimmy Smits, Daphne Rubin-Vega, Stephanie Beatriz, Olga Merediz, Gregory Diaz IV, Marc Anthony, and Dascha Polanco.

In the Heights is directed by Jon M. Chu (Crazy Rich Asians) from a script written by Quiara Alegría Hudes (Hamilton). Producers are Miranda, Hudes, Anthony Bregman, Mara Jacobs, and Scott Sanders.

Miranda portrayed the lead role of Usnavi in the Broadway musical and also wrote the music and lyrics. The musical won four major awards at the 2008 Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Original Score, and Best Choreography. It also earned a Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album.
