Emma Stone is Quite Fabulous in New Disney’s Cruella TV Spot

Walt Disney Studios has released the first Cruella TV spot for Craig Gillespie’s upcoming live-action Disney film, which stars Oscar winners Emma Stone and Emma Thompson. The video highlights the Disney villain’s rise to fame as she tries to make a name for herself while going up against Thompson’s Baroness von Hellman, who might have been a big influence on Estella’s future. The film is scheduled to debut on May 28 in theaters and on Disney+ with Premier Access. Its current release date will pit the film against Paramount Pictures’ long-awaited horror sequel A Quiet Place Part II.

Based on the character created by Dodie Smith in her 1956 book The Hundred and One Dalmatians, Disney’s Cruella will explore the rebellious early days of one of cinema’s most notorious – and notoriously fashionable – villains, the legendary Cruella de Vil. Set in 1970s London amidst the punk rock revolution, the film follows a young grifter named Estella, a clever and creative girl determined to make a name for herself with her designs. She befriends a pair of young thieves who appreciate her appetite for mischief, and together they are able to build a life for themselves on the London streets.

One day, Estella’s flair for fashion catches the eye of Baroness von Hellman, a fashion legend who is devastatingly chic and terrifyingly Haute. But their relationship sets in motion a course of events and revelations that will cause Estella to embrace her wicked side and become the raucous, fashionable, and revenge-bent Cruella.

The film will be led by Emma Stone (La La Land) as the young version of the titular fur-obsessed antagonist, who was first famously portrayed by Glenn Close in the 1996 and 2000 live-action versions of 101 Dalmatians. Joining her is fellow Academy Award winner Emma Thompson as the Baroness, Joel Fry as Jasper and Paul Walter Hauser as Horace (the bumbling henchmen from the original 101 Dalmatians), along with Kirby Howell-Baptiste (Killing Eve) and Emily Beecham (Into the Badlands).
