Set against the vibrant landscape of South Florida, and featuring an astonishing ensemble of award-winning actors and breakouts alike, Waves traces the epic emotional journey of a suburban African-American family—led by a well-intentioned but domineering father—as they navigate love, forgiveness and coming together in the aftermath of a loss.
The film stars Kelvin Harrison Jr. (Luce) as Tyler, Lucas Hedges (Lady Bird, Boy Erased) as Luke, Taylor Russell (Lost in Space) as Emily, Alexa Demi (Euphoria) as Alexis, Renée Elise Goldsberry (Hamilton) as Catherine and Emmy Award-winner Sterling K. Brown (This is Us) as Ronald.
The film is the brainchild of writer-director Trey Edward Shults, who hit big on the horror scene last year with It Comes at Night. Waves is written and directed by Shults and will be produced by Kevin Turen and Jim Wilson. The drama will be the third project of Shults with the independent film studio A24 (Hereditary, Eighth Grade, Hot Summer Nights, The Children Act)
