The film tells the story of controversial automotive industry golden boy John DeLorean, who invented the famous DeLorean automobile in the 1980s. Unfortunately, the car didn’t sell and DeLorean turned to shady financial methods — i.e. smuggling cocaine — to save his DeLorean Motor Company and ultimately wound up as a target of the FBI. The film focuses on DeLorean’s friend Jim Hoffman (Sudeikis), an ex-con pilot who helped the FBI bag the charismatic con man via a cocaine trafficking ring. Isabel Arraiza (American Dreamer) and Corey Stoll (First Man) also star.

The film is not to be confused with the other DeLorean biopic, Framing John DeLorean, starring Alec Baldwin as the titular figure. A documentary fused with narrative scenes, this portrait of John Z. DeLorean covers the enigmatic automaker’s rise to stardom and shocking fall from grace.

Nick Hamm directed Driven from a script by Colin Bateman and Alejandro Carpio.

Driven is set to hit theaters and arrive via On Demand / Digital HD on August 16.
