‘First Daughter’ Movie Review (2004)

Samantha Mackenzie (Holmes) just wants to have a normal life, she just wants to be like everybody else, but, she has one problem, her father is the president!

Wait a second, didn’t this movie just come out, and wasn’t it called Chasing Liberty? And, long before that, wasn’t it called Roman Holiday?

So, when I told people I was going to be reviewing this movie, the overwhelming response was, “Why?”

To that I assume there is an audience for this movie and if you are reading this review, I am assuming you are either a 10-12 year old girl, or you want to know if Katie Holmes makes it worth seeing.

First off, little girl, this movie is terrible, you should go walk around the mall.

Everyone else…

Yes, Katie Holmes is very beautiful, but her acting skills are non-existent. Also, remember that this movie is rated PG, and she spends most of the film trying to look cutesy and acting younger than her age. The, almost, 26 year-old is trying to pull off a role acting as an eighteen year-old college freshman.

On top of the “age thing,” the plot is so extremely predictable and cliched, I believe I could have told you it, in it’s entirety, upon simply hearing the title of the film.

Let this be a warning to the men out there; don’t be fooled, Katie Holmes is very pretty, but do not let your wife, girlfriend, daughter, niece, sister, etc., drag you to this tedious, bore-fest of a remake.

Do yourself a favor, if you want to see a movie just like this, but much better, rent Roman Holiday and save yourself the price of admission.
