‘2 Fast 2 Furious’ Movie Review (2003)

Before I go too far with this review I have to say I went in expecting a sub par car movie, but if you can handle getting past the continuous use of the words “bro” and “brah” as Brian O’Conner (Paul Walker) and Roman Pearce (Tyrese) argue back and forth you may be able to digest this flick.

In 2 Fast 2 Furious, cop Brian O’Conner is back but the over muscled lunk head, Vin Diesel, is not, thank God! Hopefully he is home perfecting his English. O’Conner’s new sidekick is the tattooed up Hilfiger model Tyrese Gibson as Roman Pearce, an ex-con that isn’t allowed more than 100 yards from his home with a chip on his shoulder ever since O’Conner became a cop, and Pearce went to jail.

With that in place the two are recruited by the US Customs Department to go undercover to catch Carter Verone, played by Cole Hauser, whom you may recognize from Good Will Hunting (1997) and Dazed and Confused (1993). They must go undercover as drivers for the drug lord along with the sexy Monica Fuentes, played by Eva Mendes (Training Day 2001).

Needless to say, lots of cars, lots of neon, lots of driving, and overall a better flick than you may expect. With an okay performance by rapper, Ludacris, playing Tej, one of O’Conner’s good friends, a horrible performance by James Remar as Customs Agent Markham, and some bad dialogue the rest of the movie comes together well. There is more than enough action and just enough story to keep the action moving along.

If you are looking for a movie to see that won’t use any of your brain, will keep you entertained, and you like tricked out cars drenched in neon then 2 Fast 2 Furious won’t disappoint.
