John Krasinski to Write A Quiet Place Sequel

John Krasinski to Write A Quiet Place Sequel

A Quiet Place star, director, and co-writer John Krasinski will be writing the upcoming sequel, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. The highly-anticipated follow-up is scheduled to arrive in theaters on May 15, 2020.

Krasinski spoke at a Q&A in Los Angeles yesterday at the Silver Screen Theatre, saying that he initially told Paramount to do the sequel with somebody else since he “had this small idea for a sequel, but I didn’t think it would go anywhere.”

“They heard some pitches, and I told [Andrew Form, producer] about this little idea,” said Krasinski. “And he told me to think about it a little longer. And then I thought, ‘This might really work.’ So, I’m currently writing the sequel.”

Krasinski also revealed the rewrite he did for the first A Quiet Place, which was written by Bryan Woods and Scott Beck. Krasinski explained that the movie was originally supposed to reveal the death of the youngest child in flashbacks, but Krasinski wanted to include that prologue as a way to introduce the world of A Quiet Place, instead of first being introduced to the family on the farm.

From Paramount Pictures, A Quiet Place opened in theaters on April 6, 2018, and grossed over $334 million worldwide on a $17 million dollar budget.

The film was directed by John Krasinski, who starred opposite his real-life wife Emily Blunt. Noah Jupe (SuburbiconWonder) and Millicent Simmonds (Wonderstruck) round out the cast.

In the modern horror thriller, a family of four must navigate their lives in silence after mysterious creatures that hunt by sound threaten their survival. If they hear you, they hunt you. The film has minimal dialogue, because silence is survival.

A Quiet Place is produced by Michael Bay (Transformers) and his Platinum Dunes partners Andrew Form and Brad Fuller (OuijaThe PurgeTexas Chainsaw Massacre), from a spec script by Bryan Woods & Scott Beck which was rewritten by Krasinski.
