R.I.P. Daniel Craft of Subway Cinema

It’s with a sad heart that we learned today that Daniel Anderson Craft of Subway Cinema passed away at the age of 42 due to complications from cancer.

I personally didn’t know Dan as well as I would have liked, but I had spoken to him a number of times over the years and I always recognized his persistent hard work with Subway Cinema since 2004. Those who regularly read ComingSoon.net or my Weekend Warrior box office preview columns may already know Subway Cinema from their annual New York Asian Film Festival which has brought me many hours of joy and entertainment over the years with its selection of Asian films and special guests. In the picture above, Dan can be seen moderating a Q&A with Hong Kong superstar Donnie Yen at last year’s festival.

Earlier this morning, this was posted on the New York Asian Film Festival’s Facebook page:

Last night around 10:15pm, Dan Craft, who has been a member of Subway Cinema since 2004, passed away. His wife and brother were with him when he went, and he wasn’t in any pain. He’d been a bit loopy for a few days as his liver failed and toxins built up in his blood, and on Thursday his wife asked him if he needed to go to the bathroom. “I’m going…” he proclaimed, “Into the future.”

See you there, Dan.

Dan Craft: 1971 – 2013

We miss you.

Dan is survived by Paige, his wife of 17 years. Our more astute readers may realize this is the same “Daniel” who recently was given a chance to see J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek Into Darkness as his dying wish.

Dan and his enthusiastic presence at Subway Cinema events like the annual New York Asian Film Festival will be sorely and sadly missed.
