Halle Berry to direct and star in MMA drama film Bruised
Deadline reports that X-Men star Halle Berry is set to make her feature directorial debut with the mixed martial arts action drama film Bruised. The Academy Award winning actress has also signed on to star in the film.
Bruised follows the story of Jackie “Justice”, a disgraced MMA fighter who has failed at the one she’s ever been good at – fighting. When 6-year-old Manny, the son she walked out on years ago, returns to her doorstep, Jackie has to conquer her own demons, face one of the fiercest rising stars of the MMA world, and ultimately fight to become the mother this kid deserves.
The action film is written by Michelle Rosenfarb. The fight choreography will be done by the team behind the John Wick franchise fight scenes. The film is being devolped by EIS company with Riverstone financing the project. Erica Lee will be executive producing.
Berry (Monster Ball, Kingmans: The Golden Circle) is currently busy with other film projects such as Sony’s Jagged Edge remake and John Wick 3: Parabellum starring alongside Keanu Reeves, Ian McShane and Common which will premiere next year on May 17.
Bruised‘s production is scheduled to start next year in March.
