Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark movie starts production soon

Prepare for your childhood nightmares to come to life! Academy Award winning director Guillermo del Toro (The Shape of WaterTrollhunters, Pan’s Labyrinth) has confirmed, via his official Twitter, that production on Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark will begin in a few days and will be taking place in Toronto. No official release date has been revealed but the horror film should be coming to theaters in 2019.

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark follows a group of young teens who must solve the mystery surrounding the sudden and macabre deaths in their small town. Steve Bertram, eOne’s president of film, television, and digital, said that the film is a “chillingly fun ride that’s sure to leave audiences around the world jumping in their seats.”

The movie will be directed by André Øvredal (The Autopsy of Jane DoeTrollhunter) and is co-written by Daniel and Kevin Hageman. At one point del Torro was set to direct the film, but recently del Torro decided to only serve as producer on the project. The cast for the project however is still a mystery.

Entertainment One will distribute the project in Canada, U.K., Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Benelux, Spain, Austria, and Switzerland. CBS Films will distribute the feature in the U.S. through Lionsgate.  Sean Daniel, Elizabeth Grave, Jason F. Brown, and J. Miles Dale will also be producing.
