A sequel to this year’s horror anthology VHS is on the way and The Hollywood Reporter has a look at the genre directors who will be participating this time around. The list includes Jason Eisener (Hobo with a Shotgun), Gareth Evans (The Raid), Eduardo Sanchez (The Blair Witch Project), Timo Tjahjanto (Macabre) and Adam Wingard (You’re Next). Making their directorial debuts are Blair Witch producer Gregg Hale and VHS screenwriter Simon Barrett.
The original film, now available on VOD from Magnet Releasing, features a slate of directors that includes Wingard, Glenn McQuaid, Radio Silence, David Bruckner, Joe Swanberg and Ti West.
The original film followed a group of petty criminals who are hired by a mysterious party to retrieve a rare piece of found footage from a rundown house in the middle of nowhere. They soon realize that the job isn’t going to be as easy as they thought. In the living room, a lifeless body holds court before a hub of old television sets, surrounded by stacks upon stacks of VHS tapes. As they search for the right one, they are treated to a seemingly endless number of horrifying videos, each stranger than the last.
Wingard is slated to direct the overall story with Sanchez and Hale co-directing and Jamie Nash, who worked with the on Lovely Molly, scripting the new segment. Evans and Tjahjanto will also work together on their contribution.
