Billy Madison’s Tamra Davis to Helm Paul Feig Comedy Turned On

According to Deadline, 20th Century Fox has hired veteran director Tamra Davis (Billy Madison, Half Baked) to direct the Paul Feig-produced comedy Turned On,.

The report details the comedy as “the story of a brilliant but awkward engineer who creates and android clone to fill in with difficult situations, but when the robot self-actualizes, her life soon spirals out of control.”

Fox purchased the script for Turned On from Charlie Kesslering, who served as an assistant to James Corden on The Late Late Show. This will be Kesslering’s first foray into motion pictures.

Feig (Ghostbusters, Bridesmaids) will produce alongside Jessie Henderson (Snatched, The Heat) via his FeigCo production banner.

Davis directed several video shorts early in her career, including The Bangles: In Your Room (1988), and Depeche Mode: But Not Tonight (1986) before jumping into motion pictures with 1992’s Guncrazy, starring Drew Barrymore (Charlie’s Angels). Her last feature film was the 2002 Brittney Spears comedy Crossroads, though she has directed episodes of Grey’s Anatomy, Santa Clarita Diet and Star in the interim.

Feig’s next directorial effort is A Simple Favor starring Anna Kendrick (Pitch Perfect), Blake Lively (The Shallows) and Lina Cardellini (Bloodline) and is set for a September 14 theatrical release.
