Bryce Dallas Howard Joins Rocketman Biopic as Elton John’s Mother

Golden Globe nominee Bryce Dallas Howard (As You Like ItJurassic World: Fallen Kingdom) has been cast as Elton John’s mother in the Rocketman biopic from Paramount Pictures, Variety has confirmed.

Howard will be joining Taron Egerton (Robin Hood) who will portray Elton John and Jamie Bell (TURN: Washington’s Spies) as Bernie Taupin. Music manager John Reid will be played by Richard Madden (Game of Thrones, Bodyguard).

The film will focus on Elton John’s beginnings, starting when he was a prodigy at the Royal Academy of Music and carrying over to when he reached global stardom through his influential and enduring musical partnership with his songwriting collaborator Bernie Taupin. It will be a biopic that looks at the performer’s life past the glitter saturated image we have grown so accustomed to associating with the performer.

Dexter Fletcher will be directing Rocketman from a script by Lee Hall. Matthew Vaughn and his Marv Films will be producing the film alongside Elton John with his Rocket Pictures partner David Furnish. Production is set to start this summer and the movie will arrive in theaters on May 17, 2019.

Howard can currently be seen on the big screen as Claire Dearing in the hit sequel Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom alongside Chris Pratt. Her other recent television and movie credits include Gold, Black Mirror, Pete’s Dragon, and Jurassic World.
