Dave Kajganich to Write The Creature From the Black Lagoon

Universal Pictures’ upcoming remake of The Creature From the Black Lagoon has found a new writer in Dave Kajganich (The Invasion), says a story at The Hollywood Reporter.

Universal released the original film in 1954, using the 3D technology of the day. It follows a geological expedition to the Amazon and the subsequent discovery of a menacing “Gill-man”, dating back to man’s prehistoric origins.

Directed by Jack Arnold, The Creature From the Black Lagoon was written by Harry Essex and Arthur A. Ross. The latter scribe is the father of The Hunger Games director Gary Ross who, some years ago, turned in his own draft for the remake. Although the studio is said to be looking for a page one rewrite, Ross is still attached to produce alongside Marc Abraham, Eric Newman and Allison Thomas.

Carl Eric Rinsch was formerly attached to direct the remake, but that appears to no longer be the case.
