Deadpool Creator Rob Liefeld Creates Exclusive Poster for Fandango Ticket Buyers

Rob Liefeld recreates seminal cover of Deadpool’s first comic book appearance for exclusive Deadpool 2 poster

Rob Liefeld, the famed comic book writer/artist who originally created Deadpool for Marvel, is joining Fandango in celebrating the forthcoming release of Deadpool 2! As tickets for Deadpool 2 become available for purchase beginning today, Fandango ticket-buyers will also receive a complimentary poster illustrated by Liefeld from Fandango FanShop while supplies last.

In collaboration with celebrated cover artist Mike Capprotti, Liefeld’s exclusive illustration recreates his cover image for New Mutants #98 in which Deadpool made his very first appearance in 1991.

Fandango’s Erik Davis sat down with Liefeld last week to discuss his exclusive image: “The cover to New Mutants #98 has become an iconic image, and it is the comic that introduced Deadpool and Domino to the world. New Mutants #98 has become a key image in the comic book pantheon, so I thought it would be great to pay homage with the movie cast… and I gotta be honest, man — it turned out better than I imagined!”

In this exclusive poster, Liefeld surrounds Deadpool (Reynolds) with Domino (Beets), Cable (Josh Brolin) and Colossus (Stefan Kapicic).

In a recent survey of over 4,500 moviegoers, Deadpool 2 was the second most anticipated summer blockbuster of 2018. Star Ryan Reynolds topped the list of the most anticipated summer movie stars, while Zazie Beetz’s portrayal as Domino came in as the #1 most anticipated breakout female performance.

This special Deadpool 2 illustration also marks the first time Fandango FanShop is teaming up with the character’s original comic book creator for an exclusive poster! Rob Liefeld continued, “I brought the world Cable, Deadpool, Domino, and it changed the course of my career. It gave me the career that I’ve had, and so it was just a pleasure [to pay homage]. And now the fact that it’s going to be a poster with Fandango! Fandango’s a big deal. That’s huge. It’s my pinch-me moment.”

Beginning today, tickets for Deadpool 2, alongside the complimentary poster, are available here while supplies last.

Ryan Reynolds is reprising his role as the Merc with a Mouth alongside Zazie Beetz as the luck-manipulating mutant Domino and Josh Brolin as Cable, the time-traveling son of the X-Men’s Cyclops. Jack Kesy (The StrainBaywatch) is playing the film’s central villain, which, while unconfirmed, is rumored to be Irish mutant Black Tom Cassidy. Japanese actress Shioli Kutsuna and Julian Dennison (Hunt for the Wilderpeople) have also joined the film in mystery roles.

After surviving a near fatal bovine attack, a disfigured cafeteria chef (Wade Wilson) struggles to fulfill his dream of becoming Mayberry’s hottest bartender while also learning to cope with his lost sense of taste. Searching to regain his spice for life, as well as a flux capacitor, Wade must battle ninjas, the yakuza, and a pack of sexually aggressive canines, as he journeys around the world to discover the importance of family, friendship, and flavor – finding a new taste for adventure and earning the coveted coffee mug title of World’s Best Lover.

Other stars returning from the first Deadpool include Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Morena Baccarin as Vanessa, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, and Stefan Kapicic as the voice of Colossus.

Deadpool 2 arrives in theaters on May 18.
