Lorne Michaels To Release Comedy Baby Nurse Through New Universal Deal

Lorne Michaels to Make Baby Nurse Through New Universal Deal

73-year-old writer and producer Lorne Michaels of Saturday Night Live fame has crafted a new film deal with Universal Pictures and NBCUniversal, with Baby Nurse set as his first film under the deal, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The comedy film will star two of SNL‘s performers, Leslie Jones (Ghostbusters) and Colin Jost (How To Be Single), and follows an FBI agent assigned to a humbling undercover job.

Michaels has long been with Paramount Pictures for his film career, releasing his SNL movies and various other theatrical releases through the studio for the past 26 years. Some of his hit movies released during that span include the two Wayne’s World films, Tommy Boy and Mean Girls. Given his longer standing career with NBCUniversal, where he created and has executive produced SNL for the most part since its start in 1975, the deal makes sense and will allow him to have all his projects under one roof.

“Lorne Michaels is already such a vital part of the NBCUniversal family, so we are thrilled to formalize our long-standing relationship with him on the film side of his company,” said Peter Cramer, president of production at Universal. “We look forward to collaborating with Lorne and his fantastic team as he continues his unparalleled run of success in producing quality, all-audience entertainment.”

“NBCUniversal has been my home for many years, and I’m pleased to continue making films and working with Ron [Meyer], Jeff [Shell], Donna [Langley] and Peter [Cramer],” added Michaels.

Baby Nurse was written by Austin Winsberg (The Sound of Music Live!), with longtime Michaels collaborator Erin David overseeing his Universal film division.

In addition to signing the film deal, Michaels has also renewed his Broadway Video television deals, including an SNL pact that will take him to the 50-year mark of the series. He is also an executive producer for NBC’s A.P. Bio, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and Late Night With Seth Meyers, as well as IFC’s Documentary Now!.
