Tom Holland and Daisy Ridley’s Chaos Walking to Get Major Reshoots

The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Chaos Walking, the adaptation of the best-selling YA novel starring Tom Holland and Daisy Ridley, will be getting major reshoots. Patrick Ness, the author of the book trilogy the film is based on, is in talks to write the new script pages for the reshoots, joining screenwriters Charlie Kaufman, Lindsey Beers, John Lee Hancock, and Gary Spinelli on the project.

The additional photography is expected to last two to three weeks, but with Holland and Ridley being so in demand and having to work around their schedules, the reshoots won’t take place until either December this year or possibly January 2019. Holland is scheduled to begin shooting the sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming during the summer, while at the same time Ridley will be working on Star Wars: Episode IX.

The film stars Tom Holland (Captain America: Civil WarSpider-Man: Homecoming) as Todd Hewlitt and Daisy Ridley (Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Star Wars: The Last Jedi) as Viola Eade, and co-stars Mads Mikkelsen (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) as Mayor Prentiss, Nick Jonas (Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle) as Davy Prentiss Jr., Demian Bichir (Alien: Covenant) as Ben, Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter as Cillian, and David Oyelowo (SelmaInterstellar) as Aaron.

The big screen adaptation of author Patrick Ness‘ young adult trilogy is being directed by Doug Liman (Edge of TomorrowMr. & Mrs. Smith), and Lionsgate, which is spending between $90-$100 million on the movie, hopes that the ambitious sci-fi thriller will launch a franchise. The post-apocalyptic tale officially described as follows:

From Carnegie Award-winning author Patrick Ness comes a bold cinematic experience beyond imagination. Todd Hewitt lives on the distant planet of New World—a new hope for humanity until struck by “The Noise,” a virus which inflicts immersive visions of ones’ every thought. The cacophony drives many mad until Todd makes a hidden, silent discovery: there is a girl named Viola, who may be the key to unlocking New World’s many-layered secrets. Together, the two unlikely companions are forced on a white-knuckle adventure into an unexplored planet – trying to escape and hide in an environment where all thought is heard, all movement seen –as they both discover the truth about the lives they left behind and the spectacular world they’ve learned to call home.

Doug Davison (who worked with Liman on American Made) and Alli Shearmur (Rogue One: A Star Wars StoryCinderella) are producing Chaos Walking with Robert Zemeckis and his ImageMovers’ partner Jack Rapke.

Chaos Walking was originally slated for release on March 1, 2019, but the reshoots may push the premiere date back.
