Jon Hamm to Co-Star with Natalie Portman in Pale Blue Dot

Variety reports that Jon Hamm (Mad Men, Baby Driver) is in talks to join Natalie Portman (Annhiliation, Black Swan) in the upcoming sci-fi drama Pale Blue Dot.

Named for the famous photograph of Earth taken by the Voyager 1 in 1990, Pale Blue Dot will follow a female astronaut who finds her very sense of reality coming undone after returning from an extended mission.

Hamm will be playing the role of Portman’s astronaut colleague and consequent object of desire after their mission.

Hamm has won Golden Globes and Emmy awards for his portrayal of smooth-talking, tortured ad man Don Draper on the acclaimed AMC TV series Mad Men. His transition to film since the show’s end has been met with praise, most notably for his hypnotic performance as a charming, sociopathic bank robber in Edgar Wright’s Baby Driver.

Pale Blue Dot will be directed by Noah Hawley (FargoLegion) based on a script by Brian C. Brown and Elliot DiGuiseppi. Reese Witherspoon has switched out her starring role for the producer’s seat along with Bruna Papandrea. Fox Searchlight Pictures is the studio behind the movie.

Filming for Pale Blue Dot is expected to begin this spring.
