Den of Thieves Sequel with Gerard Butler and the Director Returning

Deadline reports that Den of Thieves will be getting a sequel, with Gerard Butler (Olympus Has Fallen), producers Tucker Tooley, Mark Canton, Alan Siegel, as well as Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson (Power), and director Christian Gudegast (London Has Fallen) reuniting for another heist. O’Shea Jackson, Jr. (Straight Outta Compton) is currently in negotiations to return as well. The sequel is being written by Gudegast from an original idea and will be distributed by STX worldwide and financed by Diamond Film Productions.

Den of Thieves 2 will find Big Nick (Butler) on the hunt in the streets of Europe closing in on Donnie (Jackson Jr.), who is embroiled in the dangerous world of diamond thieves and the infamous Panther mafia as they plot a massive heist of the world’s biggest diamond exchange.

Canton and Tooley will produce the sequel alongside Butler and Siegel’s production company G-BASE. Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson will produce through his production company G-Unit Film & Television, Inc.

Den of Thieves over-performed at the box office after it was released in theaters last month. It took about 15 years for Tooley and Canton to bring the film to the big screen, which has yet to finish out its international run. Worldwide, the film has grossed $57 million so far. The original film is a Los Angeles crime drama in the vein of Heat that follows the intersecting and often personally connected lives of an elite unit of the LA County Sheriff’s Dept. and the state’s most successful bank robbery crew as the outlaws plan a seemingly impossible heist on the Federal Reserve Bank of downtown Los Angeles.
