The script is almost done for Disenchanted, the sequel to Enchanted starring Amy Adams

Get the birds ready to tie ribbons in your hair. Adam Shankman, who is set to direct the Enchanted sequel entitled Disenchanted, says the script is almost done, according to Slashfilm. Shankman was on a Television Critics Association (TCA) panel for the YouTube Red series Step Up: High Water and told the site that Disenchanted is getting closer. He said, “We are handing in a script in a couple weeks that I’m super happy with. Then gotta get the music written.”

The film has been in development since 2010 with the last major update a few years back. The original film starred Amy Adams, who is set to reprise the role of the animated Disney princess Gisele. When we last saw her, Gisele was living with her real-life beau Robert (Patrick Dempsey). The sequel is set 10 years after the 2007 film Enchanted. Shankman told the site a bit about the film. “The fundamental story has changed a little bit, but not from the base story of it. It’s about Giselle 10 years later going, ‘What is happily ever after?’” The concept may remind fans of Into the Woods, which was based on a Broadway musical and explored what happens after you get your happily ever after.

Shankman also spoke about the music for Disenchanted, which would follow the original, which had five musical numbers. “There’s a lot more songs this time than there were in the original, at least in the planning phase right now,” Shankman said. Of the animation which began and ended the first film, Shankman said, “As for the animation, it’s probably about the same amount.”

The original animated/live-action hybrid, made for about $85 million, earned an impressive $340.5 million worldwide. $127.8 million of that came from North America and $212.7 million from overseas. Kevin Lima directed the movie from a script by Bill Kelly. It starred Amy Adams, Patrick Dempsey, James Marsden, Timothy Spall, Idina Menzel, Rachel Covey and Susan Sarandon.
