Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency Canceled After Two Seasons

BBC America has canceled Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency after two seasons. The Season 2 finale of the show, starring Samuel Barnett and Elijah Wood, aired on December 16. BBC America sent out the following message to fans:

Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency brought together an incredible group of talented, creative people to make something truly original that celebrates how weird and wonderful the universe can be. We are so proud to work with the writers, producers and actors who created this brilliant world. We’ve seen your passionate social campaigns for another season of Dirk Gently and we regret to say that Season 2 will be the last season on BBC America.

We have been so inspired by your rowdy imagination, your wild passion and whip-smart humor. We’ve tweeted with you every episode, watched you make incredible fan art and most importantly, build great friendships. Dirk Gently fans aren’t just great fans, they’re great friends, too. You’ll continue to find connections, overcome great obstacles, make amends, help others, and create your own family of weirdos, chosen or not.

Season one was about time travel with body-swapping, and the second season involved an injection of fantasy. The vast dangers lurking in the fantasy realm navigate a path to Earth, becoming a threat in reality, and it’s up to Dirk (Barnett) and the gang to stop them in their tracks. But first – they need to find each other… Everything and everyone continues to be connected… from the sterile chambers of the government organization Blackwing, to the sleepy town of Bergsberg and the magical land of Wendimoor. After a few misfires, Dirk Gently steadily finds his footing on the new case to “find The Boy”, and with the help of his friends, makes the necessary connections to solve the mystery before it’s too late.

From creator Max Landis and showrunner Robert Cooper, the series was adapted from the popular novels by Douglas Adams (The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Doctor Who).
