Rachel McAdams Finds A Most Wanted Man

Rachel McAdams has joined the cast of A Most Wanted Man, says a story at The Hollywood Reporter. She’ll star opposite Phillip Seymour Hoffman in the John le Carré adaptation.

To be directed by Anton Corbijn (The American, Control), A Most Wanted Man features an adapted screenplay by Andrew Bovell (Edge of Darkness, Lantana).

The film takes place in present day Hamburg, Germany where a mysterious, tortured and near-dead half-Chechen, half-Russian man on the run arrives in the city’s Islamic community desperate for help and looking to recover his late Russian father’s ill-gotten fortune. Nothing about this young man seems to add up; is he a victim or a thief or, worse still, an extremist intent on destruction? Drawn into this web of intrigue is a private British banker and a young female lawyer determined to defend the defenseless. All the while, they are being watched by the brilliant, roguish chief of a covert German spy unit (Hoffman), who fights to put the pieces together as the clock ticks.

McAdams recently appeared in The Vow opposite Channing Tatum and can soon be seen in Terrence Malick’s still-untitled next film. She also just signed on to lead About Time for director Richard Curtis, which is slated to shoot prior to A Most Wanted Man.

Producers include Gail Egan and Andrea Calderwood under their Potboiler Productions banner, Stephen and Simon Cornwell under Ink Factory and Malte Grunert under Amusement Park Film. Film4’s Tessa Ross will be executive producing.
