Stranger Things Producer Shawn Levy to Helm Sci-Fi Film Crater

Tracking Board is reporting that 20th Century Fox has snagged Stranger Things producer and director Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum, Real Steel) to produce and direct Crater, a sci-fi spec script written by newcomer John J. Griffin.

Described as a coming-of-age story on the moon, Crater centers on a boy living in a lunar mining colony. After the death of the boy’s father, the boy and his four best friends decide to make a trek to explore a mysterious crater being permanently relocated to a different planet.

Levy will produce Crater through his 21 Laps production banner alongside Dan Levine, with visual effects supervisor Rpin Suwannath (Godzilla, X-Men and Narnia franchises) executive producing after developing the idea with Griffin. Paris Latsis, Terry Dougas and Gordon Gray will also executive produce the film.

Levy is currently in pre-production on the video game adaptation Uncharted with Tom Holland for Sony, and is also developing a remake of John Carpenter’s 1984 film Starman.
