James Madigan Up to Direct the Film Starfall

James Madigan is attached to direct the space station action film Starfall

Visual effects artist and second unit director James Madigan is up to direct the upcoming space station action film Starfall, according to Deadline. The film is set to begin production in May of 2018. Starfall is based on David Coggeshall’s script, with rewrites done by Moana scribes Jordan and Aaron Kandell.

Starfall will be produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura (Transformers) and Erik Howsam for di Bonaventura Pictures with Infinity Pictures Dede Nickerson. The film will be co-financed by Liongate, Wanda and Infinity Pictures. Geoff Shaevitz, Kyle Benn and Matt Janzen will oversee the picture for Lionsgate.

Madigan has worked on films like Iron Man 2Man on a LedgeThe Da Vinci CodeRED and more in visual effects. He won an Emmy Award and two Visual Effects Society Awards for his work in the HBO TV series Rome where he was visual effects supervisor for 22 episodes. He’s worked as a second unit director for films like AllegiantInsurgentRED 2 and G.I. Joe: Retaliation, and on the upcoming shark film The Meg for di Bonaventura Pictures. The Meg is currently in post-production. The film will premiere in theaters on August 10, 2018. Madigan will make his feature film directorial debut on the upcoming MGM reboot of The Rats of Nimh, which will work with both live-action and animation. The film is based on the series by Robert C. O’Brien which won the Newbery Medal. The series was the basis for the 1982 animated film The Secret of Nimh, which was directed by Don Bluth.
