Universal Pushes Back Fast & Furious 9 a Year to 2020

Universal Pictures announced today it is pushing back Fast & Furious 9 from an April 19, 2019 release to Friday, April 10, 2020. The Fate of the Furious, which hit theaters on April 14, 2017, reunited Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson and Chris ‘Ludacris’ Bridges in a heart-stopping new adventure that also features Charlize Theron, Kurt Russell and Scott Eastwood.

The Fate of the Furious earned $1.238 billion at the worldwide box office, with $225.7 million coming from North American theaters and $1.013 billion internationally.

The studio also said DreamWorks Animation’s Trolls 2 will move from April 10, 2020 to Friday, February 14, 2020. Can’t stop the feeling as the colorful, wondrous Trolls return for Trolls 2, the follow-up to 2016’s breakout global hit about how far you’ll go for happiness… and how far you’ll go to get it back. Anna Kendrick and Justin Timberlake reprise their roles as the eternal optimist Poppy and the curmudgeon Branch in the new musical comedy-adventure from the creators of Shrek. Walt Dohrn is returning to direct the film and Gina Shay is once again producing.

The first Trolls grossed $346.8 million worldwide, with $153.7 million from North America and $193.2 million from overseas.
