Mark Wahlberg, Charlie Hunnam, Garret Hedlund and Pedro Pascal in talks for Triple Frontier movie
Mark Wahlberg (Boogie Nights) is in talks to replace Ben Affleck (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice) in the upcoming Triple Frontier movie for Netflix, according to Deadline. The site reports that the film is set to begin shooting in August in Hawaii and Colombia, and that Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy), Garrett Hedlund (Mudbound) and Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones) are in talks.
The Triple Frontier movie has had a number of casting changes. Back in April, Tom Hardy (Mad Max: Fury Road, The Dark Knight Rises) and Channing Tatum (21 Jump Street, Magic Mike) left the film and Paramount pulled out. Affleck has been in talks for the role since then. The Triple Frontier movie has actually been trying to get off the ground for almost a decade. J.C. Chandor, the Oscar-nominated writer and director behind Margin Call, All Is Lost and A Most Violent Year, is taking the helm.
At one time eyed to be director Kathryn Bigelow’s follow-up to her Academy Award-winning The Hurt Locker, Triple Frontier was written by that film’s Mark Boal. The story is set in the notorious border zone between Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil where the Igazu and Parana rivers converge – making “la triple frontera” difficult to monitor and a haven for organized crime. The film was also set to star Moonlight‘s Mahershala Ali.
Among those attached to the Triple Frontier movie over the years are stars like Johnny Depp, Tom Hanks and Will Smith. Academy Award-winner Affleck is known for his work in films like Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice where he played Bruce Wayne/Batman, Armageddon and Pearl Harbor. He directed, co-produced and starred in Argo, which won an Academy Award for Best Picture.
