Michelle Rodriguez Threatens Fast and Furious 9 Exit

Fast and Furious 9 may lose Michelle Rodriguez over the franchise’s depiction of women

Michelle Rodriguez plays Letty Ortiz in the Fast and the Furious franchise. She’s been part of the film series since the beginning. She may not continue to be, however, if something doesn’t change. Rodriguez posted on Instagram today, claiming that she may not appear in Fast and Furious 9 unless they “show love to the women of the franchise.”

“F8 is out digitally today,” she writes, “I hope they decide to show some love to the women of the franchise on the next one. Or I just might have to say goodbye to a loved franchise. It’s been a good ride & Im grateful for the opportunity the fans & studio have provided over the years… One Love.”

You can check out her post below. Fans have taken to the comments sending their love and asking her to come back for Fast and Furious 9.

The past films star Vin Diesel and the late Paul Walker, as well as Jordana Brewster. Brewster didn’t appear in the last film, but she’s been a staple as well, playing Dom’s sister.

“I’ve been making movies with Jordana, who plays the sister of Dom Toretto, for 16 years and I can count on one hand how many lines I’ve had to her,” Rodriguez recently told EW. “I think that’s pathetic and it’s lack of creativity.”

The Fast and the Furious franchise has seen female stars like Gal Gadot, Helen Mirren, Charlize Theron and Elsa Pataky, though the story often focuses on the male characters. It was recently reported that a spinoff film starring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham is being planned and that Charlize Theron could be a part of it. Fast and Furious 9 and Fast and Furious 10, meanwhile, have been confirmed to be in development.

Do you think that the Fast and the Furious franchise needs to expand its female characters? Is there anyone in particular you’d like to see join the Fast and Furious 9 cast? Let us know in the comments below or tweet us @ComingSoonnet.
