Fraggle Rock Heads to New Regency

There was some bad news for fans of Fraggle Rock when, earlier this year, it was announced that a potential feature film was no longer moving forward. Today, Deadline has a more optimistic update, saying that the rights to the property have landed at New Regency and a new take on Fraggles is currently being developed.

The original series, which premiered on HBO in 1983, featured a world populated by a mix of human characters and Fraggle Rock puppets. Initial plans for the movie had the core characters Gogo, Wembley, Mokey, Boober and Red leaving their home in Fraggle Rock and interacting with humans.

The updated article suggests that it’s possible that CGI could play a large role in the film version, especially based on the success of New Regency’s Alvin and the Chipmunks franchise, though nothing has been fully decided at this time.
