Universal Hires Screenwriter for Battlestar Galactica

Universal Pictures is hiring John Orloff to write the screenplay for the Bryan Singer-directed Battlestar Galactica, reports Deadline.

Orloff wrote and executive produced Roland Emmerich’s Anonymous and also penned Zack Snyder’s Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole and A Mighty Heart, starring Angelina Jolie. He received an Emmy nomination for HBO’s “Band of Brothers.”

It’s unclear when the project might go into production, but Bryan Singer is currently working on New Line’s Jack the Giant Killer, which hits theaters on June 15, 2012.

“Battlestar Galactica” was created by Glen A. Larson and began with the TV series in 1978, followed by a brief sequel TV series in 1980. Ronald D. Moore and David Eick launched a new version in 2004 while a prequel to that series, titled “Caprica,” debuted in 2010. Syfy also filmed “Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome,” though that project does not have a launch date yet.
