Power Rangers Cast Would Like a Female Green Ranger in Sequel

The Power Rangers cast would like to see a female Green Rangers in the sequel

Fans of the Power Rangers film who stayed for the end credits scene know that there is likely an appearance from the Green Ranger in the upcoming sequel. On the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers series, the Green Ranger was the alternate identity of Tommy Oliver (played by Jason David Frank). Throughout the franchise’s run, Oliver has returned as a number of different rangers, including the White Ranger, the Red Ranger and, most recently, the Black Ranger. While Oliver doesn’t appear in the new film, Green Ranger fans would be wise to stay in their seats during the new movie’s end credits. That said, there is a possibility that we might see a female Green Ranger, if the cast of the current film gets their collective wish.

Dacre Montgomery who plays the new Red Ranger tells THR, “A lot of the cast and I have discussed that we think it should be a girl. It makes it even: three girls, three boys. It’s left blank. It’s a cliff-hanger. Whoever you’re going to drop into that position — whether it’s a girl — it’s inevitably going to create drama. It’ll be interesting to drop that drama into it and see how we all relate to it and work with it.”

“There’s a post-credits scene, so people should stay,” the film’s director, Dean Israelite, told the site. “It teased up the direction of what the next movie could be. For people that know the brand, it’s super exciting. There are so many ideas we’re kicking around in the direction of where the film leads you.”

Saban’s Power Rangers follows five ordinary high school kids who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove – and the world – is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover that they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so they will have to overcome their real-life issues and band together as the Power Rangers before it is too late.

What do you think? Should there be a female Green Ranger? There have certainly been a number of versions of the Rangers over the years. We want to hear from you. Leave your thoughts in the comments or tweet us @ComingSoonnet.
