Dean Devlin to Direct Sci-Fi Fantasy Countdown

Dean Devlin’s Electric Entertainment announced today that it has acquired Steve Altiere‘s sci-fi fantasy spec script Countdown and will set a production date shortly. Devlin will direct the film and produce alongside his Electric Entertainment team of Marc Roskin and Rachel Olschan.

The story centers on a boy fascinated by space travel who recruits his friends and an eccentric NASA engineer to hatch an unbelievable plan to try and save his dying father.

“I was immediately captured by Steve’s script when I read it, and knew that this was something we as a company could get very excited about. I look forward to turning this into a thrilling adventure for all audiences,” said Devlin.

Altiere, who currently serves as story editor on the feature We, Dragons at DreamWorks Animation, previously served as story editor on Dinotrux for Netflix. A writer of numerous animated films and other family content, his previous credits include Max 2, Cats & Dogs, Woody Woodpecker and The Munsters.

Devlin will next direct and is in pre-production on the feature Bad Samaritan, a thriller shooting this winter, starring David Tennant and Robert Sheehan, which he will produce with Electric’s Roskin and Olschan. The company is currently in post-production on its third season of The Librarians for TNT.
