Warner Bros. Pictures has set both the A Star is Born and Rampage release dates for 2018.
Rampage, coming to theaters on April 20, 2018, is the big screen adaptation of the classic Midway arcade game that will be a reunion of San Andreas star Dwayne Johnson, writer Carlton Cuse (as well as his Colony co-creator Ryan Condal), director Brad Peyton and producer Beau Flynn. The film will mark the third collaboration between Johnson, Flynn, Peyton and New Line, having also worked on Journey 2: The Mysterious Island together as well.
Released in 1986, the original Rampage put players in control of one of three monsters: A giant ape named George; a giant lizard name Lizzy; or a giant werewolf named Ralph. The game saw the monsters running amok across the United States, fighting the military, and destroying key landmarks. Several sequels were developed for the title as well, adding even more types of monsters to the playable roster and extending their path of destruction into the cosmos and even back in time.
The studio has scheduled musical drama A Star is Born, a remake starring Award-winning music superstar Lady Gaga and four-time Academy Award nominee Bradley Cooper (American Sniper, Silver Linings Playbook), for September 28, 2018. The project will also mark the directorial debut of Cooper.
The new version of A Star is Born will mark the fourth big-screen iteration of the film. William A. Wellman directed the 1937 original with Janet Gaynor and Fredric March. The 1954 George Cukor film is probably the best known, starring Judy Garland and James Mason. 1976 saw Frank Pierson tackle an updated version with Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson.
Lady Gaga’s role in A Star is Born will mark her first lead in a feature film. In addition, she will compose new songs for the film, which she will also perform. A Star is Born is being produced by Billy Gerber and Jon Peters; together with Bradley Cooper and Todd Phillips, under their Joint Effort Productions banner. Basil Iwanyk is serving as executive producer.
