Emily Carmichael to Direct Lumberjanes Movie

TheWrap reports that Emily Carmichael (The Adventures of Ledo and Ix) has been tapped by 20th Century Fox to direct the movie adaptation of the fan-favorite comic series Lumberjanes. Will Widger, whose screenplay The Munchkin made the 2014 “Black List” of unproduced screenplays, wrote the first draft of the script. The film will be produced by BOOM! Studios Stephen Christy, Ross Richie and Adam Yoelin producing.

Lumberjanes was co-created by the pair with BOOM! Studios editor Shannon Watters, Noelle Stevenson and Grace Ellis, with art from Brooke Allen. The series follows Jo, April, Mal, Molly and Ripley, five best pals determined to have an awesome summer together… and they’re not gonna let any insane quest or an array of supernatural critters get in their way!

The series is described as a fun mix of Buffy the Vampire Slayer meets Gravity Falls, featuring five rad, butt-kicking teenage girls who go to summer camp, fight monsters, and discover a mystery that puts the whole world at stake, all while championing the power of “friendship to the max!” Lumberjanes was awarded the Best New Series and Best Publication for Teens at the 2015 Eisner awards.

Carmichael is an in-demand filmmaker now with the film Powerhouse set up at Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment with Colin Trevorrow and Simon Kinberg producing.
