Summit Picks Up I, Alex Cross

Summit Entertainment has picked up the U.S. distribution rights for the Rob Cohen-directed I, Alex Cross, the studio confirmed today.

The film is a reboot of the franchise based on the best-selling James Patterson novels. The series of novels, begun in 1993 with “Along Came a Spider,” features a forensic psychologist named Alex Cross (Tyler Perry).

Matthew Fox will play villain Michael Sullivan and Ed Burns is set to play Tommy Kane, Cross’s partner.

The original script, written by Patterson and Kerry Williamson, was revised by Marc Moss.

Morgan Freeman played the role twice, first in an adaptation of the second book in the series, Kiss the Girls in 1997 and later in 2001 when Along Came a Spider itself was adapted.
