New Bridget Jones Book and Movie in the Works

The London Evening Standard reports that Bridget Jones creator Helen Fielding has finally started writing the third installment of the best-selling books. She read three pages of new material at Damian Barr’s Literary Salon at Shoreditch House and confirmed that a third book was underway.

Fielding said there have also been discussions about the next film. “I will be working on both the book and the film but I don’t know if they are the same thing yet. It’s not been decided.”

The author added that one of the themes will be Bridget having a mid-thirties baby crisis. Her first two book sold 15 million copies.

The first two movies, starring Renée Zellweger, Hugh Grant and Colin Firth, earned an impressive $544.4 million worldwide.

Would the actors return? Firth told the BBC last month that “I think the idea of Mark and Daniel and Bridget in advanced stages of deterioration could be quite fun. We’re making a comedy, after all.”
