Currently finishing up work on his X-Men: First Class, Kick-Ass director Matthew Vaughn may be prepped to make a third film focusing on superheroes. Deadline claims that Vaughn is close to working out a deal for The Golden Age, a comic from Jonathan Ross and Tommy Lee Edwards, set in a superhero retirement home.
While the project is far from a sure thing at this stage, the original articles suggests that the film’s setup could mirror two prominent “old age” ensemble works from last year, The Expendables and RED. Vaughn would ideally put together an aging group of former A-listers (Clint Eastwood and Jack Nicholson are among those listed as being part of Vaughn’s dream cast) and set them as Golden Age heroes (a term coined for comic books published in the 1930’s and 1940’s, when the superhero genre really took off) who have to return to fighting crime to repair the damage done by their grandchildren.
It is noted that, should the project move forward, Vaughn is not necessarily interested in directing and may only produce the adaptation.
As for the comic book version, little has been officially released at this stage, though Bleeding Cool ran the below teaser image that debuted at last October’s Birmingham International Comic Show.
