Guy Pearce, Gary Oldman and (as recently rumored) Mia Wasikowska are now all confirmed for director John Hillcoat’s Wettest County in the World, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The new additions will join Shia LaBeouf (Transformers: Dark of the Moon), Tom Hardy (Inception, The Dark Knight Rises), Jason Clarke (Public Enemies) and Jessica Chastain (The Tree of Life).
An adaptation of Matt Bondurant’s upcoming novel and based on a true story, The Wettest County in the World revolves around a moonshine gang operating in the bootlegging capital of America — Franklin County, Va. — during Prohibition. The novel draws its roots from Bondurant’s grandfather and two granduncles, who made up a fierce criminal gang at the center of the country’s moonshine trade.
Pearce is said to play an “overly violent” police officer and Oldman a gangster/bootlegger. Wasikowska will play LaBeouf’s love interest.
Nick Cave wrote the screenplay for the film, which is scheduled to start shooting in the spring.
