The big buzz on Day 3 of the Sundance Film Festival was Drake Doremus’ second feature Like Crazy, a relationship drama starring Anton Yelchin and Felicity Jones (The Tempest), which was picked up by Paramount Pictures for distribution a few hours after its world premiere.
The film follows a relationship of a young couple from different sides of the ocean, beginning with their first date when they meet at college before she has to move back home to England, creating an ongoing long distance romance that sees its share of pitfalls as the two try to reunite.
Doremus was at the festival for a second year in a row, having premiered his comedy Douchebag at Sundance last year, but Like Crazy is quite a departure, the film having already garnered favorable comparisons to Blue Valentine and (500) Days of Summer. It’s also Paramount Pictures’ first acquisition at Sundance since they folded their Paramount Vantage imprint a few years ago.
We had a chance to catch the film’s premiere and were absolutely blown away by the maturity of the filmmaking at work, as well as the performances by the two actors and a supporting cast that includes last year’s breakout star Jennifer Lawrence. Look for ComingSoon.net’s full review of the film sometime in the next day or two.
