Colin Firth in Talks for Gambit Remake

Colin Firth is in talks to star in the Gambit remake, to be directed by Michael Hoffman (The Last Station) from a script by Joel and Ethan Coen, reports Deadline.

The original 1966 British caper comedy takes off in Hong Kong where a dapper English cat burglar (Michael Caine) enlists the aid of a Eurasian dancer (Shirley MacLaine) to help him in an elaborate scheme to grab an age-old artifact from the heavily secured palace of a powerful Middle Eastern tycoon. The foolproof scheme begins to backfire shortly after it starts and the duo must pull out all the stops if they hope to come out on top.

In the redo, Firth “would play a cat burglar who attempts to rob a billionaire of his priceless statue. He enlists the help of a waitress who looks exactly like the victim’s dead wife. The burglar’s usual precision is clouded by his relationship with his accomplice.”

The producers hope to get the film shooting in London and Texas before summer.
