James Gunn’s Super Gets a Release Date

IFC Films has decided to release James Gunn’s dark superhero comedy Super, starring Rainn Wilson, Ellen Page and Kevin Bacon, on April 1, 2011… April Fool’s Day! The low-budget comedy, by the director of Slither and screenwriter for Zack Snyder’s Dawn of the Dead, debuted during the Toronto International Film Festival‘s “Midnight Madness” in September to huge buzz and was immediately picked up by IFC the day after its premiere.

Wilson stars as a normal guy named Frank who decides to become a crimefighter when his wife (Liv Tyler) leaves him for a drugdealer (Bacon), taking on the identity of the Crimson Bolt  and agreeing to let a young overzealous comic shop employee (Page) to  be his sidekick Boltie. Together, they fight crime in the most violent manner imaginable.
