Jennifer Lawrence will headline an Elizabeth Holmes movie with Adam McKay writing and directing
After taking home a Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar for his work last year on The Big Short, Adam McKay is gearing up for another true story of American finance. According to Variety, McKay will team with fellow Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence for a Elizabeth Holmes movie, based on the businesswoman who, last year, was valued by Forbes at $4.5 billion and who, per an article published just this month, is now valued at zero.
The Elizabeth Holmes movie, which is currently without an announced title, will tell the story of the businesswoman who became CEO and founder of a privately-held blood testing company, Theranos.
“Our mission is to make actionable information accessible to everyone at the time it matters,” reads the company’s official mission statement. “By making actionable information accessible to everyone in the world at the time it matters most, we are working to facilitate the early detection and prevention of disease, and empower people everywhere to live their best possible lives.”
Unfortunately for Holmes, claims of test inaccuracies coupled with new information regarding Theranos’ annual revenue have made the value of the company essentially worthless.
McKay will write, direct and produce the Elizabeth Holmes movie through his Gary Sanchez Productions. At this time, no distributor is attached to the project, but the trade suggests that a bidding war is expected within the next few weeks.
Lawrence, who is on the big screen now as part of the ensemble cast of Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Apocalypse, can next be seen starring opposite Chris Pratt in director Morten Tyldum’s science fiction thriller Passengers.
