Snyder and Cavill Both Eager for Solo Superman Movie

Snyder and Cavill both eager for solo Superman movie

Back when Warner Bros. revealed their full slate of DC Comics films, no release dates were given for standalone Superman and Batman movies, both of which are being planned with the latter currently being written by Geoff Johns and Ben Affleck. The Man of Steel himself, Henry Cavill, has spoken about it previously, citing that allowing the rest of the DCU to expand around him on film would allow for a better use of the character in the future.

Speaking with IGN, however, Batman v Superman director Zack Snyder offered a different reason for why it hasn’t happened, but maintained it’s something he’d like to see done.

“I think if we could get a good script it would be great to have a standalone Superman movie. I think that would be fun to do,” Snyder said. “Part of the reason we haven’t announced the standalone Superman movie was to support some of the events of (Batman v Superman).”

Cavill also opened up about the potential and reiterated that the planned DC slate is one reason it hasn’t happened, but also the success of “Dawn of Justice” was a factor.

“I do believe it depends upon the success of this movie. If this goes well then we can start to negotiate with Warner Bros. to develop a standalone Superman, but they’ve got their plan set out for other stuff and Justice Leagues and various other movies. It’s about finding the time really. It’s something I would be very keen to do.”

Luckily for Cavill, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is sitting just north of $682 million worldwide and has already outgrossed Man of Steel‘s entire theatrical run. Perhaps the last son of Krypton will be getting another solo movie in the future after all.
