Zendaya Takes a Lead Role in Marvel’s Spider-Man Reboot

According to Deadline, Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures have cast teen sensation Zendaya (“K.C. Undercover,” “Shake It Up,” “Dancing With the Stars”) as a lead character named Michelle in their upcoming Spider-Man reboot!

Meanwhile The Hollywood Reporter’s Borys Kit is saying her casting is part of the studio’s plan to go heavily multi-cultural with the new film, so expect to see more diversity in the announcements to come.

Tom Holland will make his debut as the webslinger in Captain America: Civil War where he stars alongside Chris Evans as Steve Rogers / Captain America and Robert Downey Jr. in the May 6, 2016 release.

Following that film, Holland will be spinning his own web in an upcoming solo film joined by Marisa Tomei as Aunt May. Set to be directed by Jon Watts, the solo Spider-Man movie will be written by Vacation writers and directors John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein.

A co-production between Sony and Marvel Studios, Spider-Man will be released in theaters and IMAX on July 7, 2017.
