Will Smith and Joel Edgerton to Headline David Ayer Fantasy Bright

Joel Edgerton and Will Smith will headline Bright, an End of Watch style thriller set in a fantasy world

Joel Edgerton and Will Smith are planning to star opposite one another in the fantasy film Bright, The Wrap reports. Set to be directed by David Ayer, Bright began life as a spec script from Victor Frankenstein and American Ultra scribe Max Landis. Likened to Ayer’s own End of Watch, Bright takes place in a fantasy realm and follows an Orc cop. The outlet notes that, while nothing has been officially announced, Bright will potentially find distribution through Warner Bros. Pictures. Warner Bros. is currently working with both Smith and Ayer on the upcoming DC Comics film, Suicide Squad, and plans could see Bright gearing up to enter production before Ayer and Smith return for a Suicide Squad sequel.

Joel Edgerton made his directorial debut last year with the thriller The Gift, which he also scripted and starred in. He can next be seen in Mud and Take Shelter helmer Jeff Nichol’s Midnight Special, opening in theaters later this month. Smith, meanwhile, last starred in Peter Landesman’s Concussion and recently joined the ensemble cast of David Frankel’s Collateral Beauty opposite Edward Norton, Keira Knightley, Michael Pena, Naomie Harris, Jacob Latimore, Kate Winslet and Helen Mirren.

Landis has previously shared tidbits from Bright over social media. Although it’s not necessarily a scene that will appear in the final film, you can get a taste of Bright‘s alternate reality in the below tweet:
