Deadpool Passes $600 Million Worldwide and Remains No. 1

Despite three new wide releases, 20th Century Fox‘s Deadpool easily won first place at the box office for its third-straight weekend. The Tim Miller-directed comic book adaptation, starring Ryan Reynolds, added $31.5 million domestically to bring its three-week total to $285.6 million. Internationally, the $58-million budgeted film earned another $40 million for an overseas total of $324.2 million. That means the movie has now earned  an impressive $610 million worldwide!

Opening in second place domestically was Summit Entertainment/Lionsgate’s Gods of Egypt, which earned just $14 million from 3,117 theaters, an average of $4,491 per theater. Internationally, the movie debuted with $24.2 million from 68 markets. Directed by Alex Proyas, the movie stars Gerard Butler,  Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Brenton Thwaites, Chadwick Boseman, Elodie Yung, Courtney Eaton, and Geoffrey Rush. The film cost $140 million to make and received a B- CinemaScore from audiences.

The 20th Century Fox-distributed Kung Fu Panda 3 dropped a spot to third with $9 million its fifth weekend for a total of $128.5 million, while fourth place went to TriStar Pictures’ Risen, which earned $7 million its second weekend for a total of $22.7 million. The latter cost $20 million to make.

Rounding out the top five was 20th Century Fox’s Eddie the Eagle, starring Taron Egerton and Hugh Jackman. Receiving an A CinemaScore, the biopic of the British ski jumper earned $6.3 million from 2,042 theaters, an average of $3,085 per theater. The Dexter Fletcher-directed film cost just $23 million to make.

The third new wide release, Open Road Films’ Triple 9, debuted in sixth place with $6.1 million from 2,205 theaters, an average of $2,768. Directed by John Hilcoat, the crime thriller received a C+ CinemaScore and stars Casey Affleck, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Anthony Mackie, Aaron Paul, Clifton Collins Jr., Norman Reedus, Teresa Palmer, Michael K. Williams, Gal Gadot, Woody Harrelson and Kate Winslet.

New Line Cinema and MGM’s How to be Single, starring Dakota Johnson and Rebel Wilson, added $5.2 million in seventh its third weekend and has earned $39.6 million so far. The comedy cost $38 million to make.

Also, A24’s The Witch brought in another $5 million for a two-week total of $16.6 million, while Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Zootopia continues to perform well overseas before opening in North America on March 4. The film added $30 million from 31 overseas markets and has already reached $81.4 million internationally.
