Emma Stone in Talks to Play Disney’s Cruella de Vil

Emma Stone in talks to star in Disney’s live-action Cruella de Vil movie

Emma Stone (The Amazing Spider-Man films) is in early negotiations to play the iconic 101 Dalmations villainess Cruella de Vil in the live-action Cruella movie, says The Hollywood Reporter.

The trade says that Kelly Marcel is writing the script for The Walt Disney Studios film, which is intended to be an origin story of the character. Aline Brosh McKenna worked on an early version of the script. Andrew Gunn is producing the movie, while Kristin Burr and Jessica Virtue are overseeing for the studio.

The project does not have a director attached yet, but the goal is to start shooting later this year.

Cruella de Vil was the villain of the 1961 animated classic and has since been played by Glenn Close in the 1996 live-action movie 101 Dalmations  and in its 2000 sequel, 102 Dalmations

The character originated in Dodie Smith’s 1956 book, “The Hundred and One Dalmatians.” Smith also briefly revisited the character in her lesser-known science fiction sequel book, “The Starlight Barking.”
