Emmerich to Shoot Foundation in 3D Motion Capture

2012 director Roland Emmerich tells MTV that he will shoot his adaptation of Isaac Asimov’s Foundation using similar technology as James Cameron used for Avatar. He revealed that the Columbia Pictures project will be shot in 3D and using motion capture.

“The ‘Avatar’ technology applies to ‘Foundation,’ ” Emmerich said. “It has to be done all CG because I would not know how to shoot this thing in real.”

The director added that he expects a new draft of the script by Robert Rodat (Saving Private Ryan) on Friday.

Asimov’s “Foundation Trilogy” centers on a society that has figured out how to predict the future based on a method called psychohistory and sets up a foundation devoted to scientific research to protect itself and ensure its survival.

Oh, and that 2012 TV series spin-off mentioned before? Not gonna happen.
