I didn’t watch this following viral video for Ridley Scott‘s The Martian. I’m not sure whether the footage within the video was merely created for the film’s marketing, but I don’t want to risk spoiling knowing any more about the film than I already know and that extends to knowing Matt Damon plays an astronaut that gets stuck on Mars and a rescue mission is devised to bring him home. That, and it co-stars Chiwetel Ejiofor, Jessica Chastain, Jeff Daniels, Donald Glover, Aksel Hennie, Kristen Wiig, Mackenzie Davis, Kate Mara and Sean Bean. I mean, do I really need to know much more than that before I see it during its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival next month?
During a manned mission to Mars, Astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon) is presumed dead after a fierce storm and left behind by his crew. But Watney has survived and finds himself stranded and alone on the hostile planet. With only meager supplies, he must draw upon his ingenuity, wit and spirit to subsist and find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive. Millions of miles away, NASA and a team of international scientists work tirelessly to bring “the Martian” home, while his crewmates concurrently plot a daring, if not impossible, rescue mission. As these stories of incredible bravery unfold, the world comes together to root for Watney’s safe return.
