Ridley Scott Will Reportedly Direct ‘Prometheus 2’ in Early 2016

Ridley Scott delivered Prometheus back in 2012. The film landed to a mixture of emotions, but no matter what you say it certainly sparked conversation and a modest showing at the box office, though far from blockbuster numbers. Since then we’ve wondered when the sequel might arrive as Scott seemed interested to return to that world and never shied from answering questions and Prometheus 2 will be his next feature, with production expected to begin in January 2016.

“I’ve got back into the sci-fi thing, I kind of adore it,” Scott told the magazine and while it may seem unlikely Fox would move forward with both Scott’s Prometheus 2 and the anticipated Alien feature from Neill Blomkamp, which reportedly had to be changed a bit as Scott felt it “was bumping [Prometheus 2] a little bit,” it seems that might be exactly what’s taking place.

Fox did recently The Cartel” with Scott producing and likely directing with Leonardo DiCaprio eyed to star, this would seem to give Shane Salerno enough time to prep the screenplay for Scott to shoot later in 2016, once he’s completed work on Prometheus 2. For as many projects as Scott often has lined up at once, this actually sort of makes sense.

Last time we heard about a screenplay for Prometheus 2 it was Jack Paglen (Transcendence) taking a stab at a draft on the heels of Michael Green who also wrote the upcoming Blade Runner sequel, which Scott will produce and Denis Villeneuve will direct.

As far as a plot is concerned there is no telling where it might head. Noomi Rapace has made some comments in the past while Scott has referred to what is said to be a finished script saying “it’s fresh” and will “reintroduce a fresher form” of the alien, calling the baby alien we saw at the end of Prometheus “awfully close to the alien” that tormented Sigourney Weaver. That’s imagery he hopes to get away from, hoping for something new, calling the original H.R. Giger-created Alien as “the definitive dragon and he’s a motherf**ker. The alien’s real which is why it’s probably one of the scariest monsters in film history.”
