Is an ‘X-Men’ & ‘Fantastic Four’ Crossover Necessary?

There are quite a few characters in the X-Men movies with a variety of powers. I’m not a comic book expert, by any stretchsu,re there are mutants with the ability to turn invisible, control fire, I don’t know about stretch, but it seems that Colossus guy can become pretty tough. So, that in mind, why would it be of much interest (other than financial) to create an X-Men and Fantastic Four crossover as X-Men: Apocalypse director Bryan Singer hints at with Yahoo Movies?

In response to a question regarding an online rumor suggesting plans at creating such a crossover with Singer’s mutants and the four stars of Josh Trank‘s upcoming Fantastic Four reboot Singer said, “Those ideas are in play… That would be a natural match-up because they’re both ensemble films and there is a natural mechanism by which to do it.” Uh, wouldn’t it be an unnatural match-up because they’re both ensemble films?

As far as how he plans to unite the franchises he said, “It deals with time, that’s all I’m going to say.” Of course it does!

Now I’m not trying to be negative, I just don’t think this sounds like a necessary idea whatsoever. In fact, it sounds like a forced step backward. The only reason beyond a financial one where I think this sounds even remotely logical is if Fantastic Four is the bust it’s looking more and more likely to be and they’re looking for some way to continue to capitalize on the characters. Sure, I could imagine a story where the mutants are somehow disabled by a “mutant disabling ray” or something like that and the Fantastic Four must swoop in to save the day, but man, that sounds awful if you ask me.

As much as I want to root for this movie considering how much I like the actors involved, Fox seems to be doing little to nothing to promote it and the fact they’ve set up a Wednesday night press screening here in Seattle, leaving little to no time for print press to review it is alarming… For those of you that don’t think that matters, just wait, I’ll have my Paper Towns review for you tomorrow… same deal there.

I don’t know, I’ll take it to you. Is an X-Men and Fantastic Four crossover something you see as necessary or is it something you’d probably go see just for the mere fact it sounds fun? Or is it some combination of both? Lemme know in the comments below.
